Title

Raising of Old Glory on Palmyra after Shelling

Description

From back of photo:

A Navy communique received here reported "Palmyra Island was shelled by an enemy submarine", but it added that "there were no casualties." Palmyra lies almost as far south of Honolulu as Wake Island to the westward. This official US Navy photograph just released shows the raising of "Old Glory" on the island outpost of Uncle Sam in Mid-Pacific.
